Why Weight? is going to be my personal accountability log as I embark on a journey of permanent lifestyle modification and weight loss.I have been struggling with my weight for as long as I can remember. As I approached my 45th birthday, it dawned on me that now is the time for me to take care of my health and change my lifestyle, before I have to start taking medication or have a major health crisis. As much as I have supportive friends, family members, colleagues and professionals backing me up and helping me stay motivated, I have to do this for me.
Every single day, for as long as I live (even after I reach my weight loss goal) I will have a choice to make: to be in control of my weight or to allow obesity to control me. Today I am choosing to be in control.
As I educate myself about things in my environment and the food that is commercially available that help overweight people get that way and stay that way, I will also post some relevant thoughts and opinions.
I realize that this blog may not get a lot of traffic, or any at all for that matter. I'm totally OK with that. This is about me being accountable for my choices and having transparency in my choices - this is not a performance for applause or validation from anyone else. This is more about me being honest with myself about how appropriately (or inappropriately) I nourish my body with food and activity.
I'm married and the mom of three terrific kids: one son (25 years old) and two teenaged daughters (19½ and 18 years old). My family lives in Ottawa, Canada.
I have been a Registered Nurse since 1998. I've been working with new moms and their babies for the past 13½ years - it's my dream job.
